Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre - celebrating 25 years of supporting people affected by cancerCelebrating 25 years

June 2018 saw the LJMC reach its 25th birthday - a milestone not just for the centre but also for the provision of supportive services to people affected by cancer.

Back in 1993 the centre was the first of its kind to embrace the holistic care of cancer patients and we're proud to have influenced the establishment of many other similar services since then.

One of the greatest compliments is that our services are now considered mainstream and people are no longer surprised to find somewhere at the Cancer Centre where they can obtain more information or find someone to whom they can talk.

We held a couple of celebrations to mark this special occasion. At the first, we celebrated our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. Part of this included producing a video with contributions from many of our Cancer Centre colleagues as well as patients, staff and volunteers.

A second celebration gave us the chance to thank some of the wonderful people who have supported the LJMC over the years including our volunteers and fundraisers.

We are indebted to everyone who has enabled the LJMC to achieve so much and help so many people. With requests for help now numbering about 40,000 each year, there is clearly a great need and demand for our services and we are proud that we can fulfill these requests.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to the LJMC. Whatever you have done, however large or small, has made a huge difference to someone at one of the toughest points in his or her life.

It’s everything.
It’s a special place."
