LJMC researchers receive international recognition

A publication by LJMC researchers was announced runner-up in the Scientific Article Prize Competition awarded at the International Society for Complementary Medicine Research conference in Berlin in May.

It is an immense accolade to be acknowledged in this competition which celebrates the best scientific article in the field of complementary medicine and integrated medicine research, selecting from international papers published in the previous two years.

"The monkey on your shoulder": A qualitative study of lymphoedema patients' attitudes to and experiences of acupuncture and moxibustion" was written by LJMC's Research Acupuncturist Dr Beverley de Valois with co-authors Anthea Asprey (University of Exeter Medical School) and Teresa Young (Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre).

The publication reports the results of focus group research carried out at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Beverley said, "The paper highlights the potential of using acu/moxa in managing chronic conditions. An important aspect is that we hear the voices of cancer survivors with lymphoedema speaking about their experiences of acu/moxa."

ISCMR is an international scientific organization of researchers, practitioners, and policy makers that fosters CAM/IM research and provides a platform for knowledge and information exchange to enhance international communication and collaboration.
