Complementary therapy service at the LJMC
The LJMC offers a range of complementary therapies to patients for the relief of stress or stress-related symptoms.
It is important to emphasise that these therapies are intended to complement conventional treatment. They are not alternative treatments and are not intended as a substitute for the medical treatment of cancer.
The therapies offered at the LJMC are appropriate for cancer patients before, during and after treatment. The therapists who work at the centre are fully qualified and have additional training in working with patients with cancer.
What therapies are available?
Who is eligible to use this service?
The complementary therapy service at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre is available to NHS patients under the care of a Mount Vernon Cancer Centre doctor.
Private patients having treatment at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre may also be eligible to use this service. Please call the Helpline for details.
How do I book a session?
You can access the complementary therapy service in any of the following ways:
- Someone in your medical team may refer you
- You may refer yourself by dropping in to the LJMC
- You may call the LJMC Helpline (020 3826 2555)
Someone from the Centre will contact you to make an appointment.
Each session lasts 45 minutes so please arrive on your time.
Allow time for parking, especially if your appointment is in the morning. There is a charge for parking at the hospital with a Pay & Display scheme in operation 24 hours a day.
If you are unable to keep any appointment, please give at least 24 hours’ notice so that we can give the appointment to someone else. Please call the Helpline (020 3826 2555).
What does the therapy cost?
The complementary therapy service at the LJMC is funded by voluntary donations. Any contributions towards the costs of the service are therefore always gratefully received.
How long will I have to wait?
Please be aware that there is a waiting list for one-to-one therapies. You may find it more convenient to book an appointment with a therapist who is local to you. You can find details of suitably trained and qualified therapists in our Complementary Therapy Network list.
